Here we come to what has been known for centuries as the "golden rule.” Jesus calls us to do to others what we would have them do to us. This means far more than not doing what will harm or bother others. It means having "self-interest" shape how we engage with others, doing good to them. And remarkably, Jesus asserts that this ethic summarizes all that God has revealed to us through the Old Testament too. His desire is that our treatment of others would reflect his character and how he has treated us, with true love and grace.
