In this passage Yahweh continues to call Israel on their unfaithfulness to the covenant and challenges them on their perspective. He is not absent, nor indifferent to them or their lives. In fact, soon he will send his messenger to them. The announcement of his coming serves as both a warning and a great word of encouragement. The messenger is coming to purify them and lead them into right worship, but his coming serves also as a warning to their current indifference to Yahweh.
