Though we might be tempted to breeze right past this summary hinge text, it’s worth slowing down and considering what we encounter in these three verses. One of the things we see is an example of generous discipleship by an unexpected group of individuals following Jesus. And then, we encounter a summary statement from Luke that gets at the core of Jesus’ mission — what he was all about. Understanding Jesus’ proclamation of the good news of the kingdom of God is essential if we are to follow after him as faithful disciples.
