As we move further into Luke's story, God's promises begin to unfold, here in the birth of a son to Elizabeth and Zechariah. In the midst of celebration and ceremony, Elizabeth and Zechariah do something that astonishes their family and friends. There is more going on in this text than just the naming of their son. They together boldly choose to obey God's words despite any pressure to do otherwise. Like them, we too are called to the same thing - obedience in the face of pressure to do otherwise. In Jesus, we have not only our rescuer who has paid the price for our many failures to obey but also the righteous and powerful one who is with us, enabling us to grow in our obedience to God's words to us.
