Habakkuk 2:2-20
"Surprised by Hope"

In this passage we read about the coming judgment of God because of sin.  Though what is announced here is specifically spoken in reference to Babylon, if we are honest, we recognize that we are guilty as well.  Most likely we are not guilty of the precise things denounced in this text but a deeper look will expose the fact that we too have sinned against others and against God, the judge of all the earth.  Where does that leave us?  Is there any hope?  Indeed there is.  The chapter concludes with a call to stand in silence before God.  In doing so we discover that he is not only judge, but also the gracious redeemer of all who put their faith in him.  In the midst of whatever we face, we can be filled with hope because of who he is.
