Daniel 1:1-21
"Christ, Culture and Cucumbers

In this message we dive into the first story of the book of Daniel. What we discover are four young men, just teenagers most likely, who have been taken from their native home by force, stripped of their names and given new Babylonian names, and enrolled in a three year program of re-education. In their new Babylonian home, the Babylonian culture threatens to assimilate them. Yet, we find them clinging tenaciously to their identity as people who belong to God. For the people of God living today in what is often a hostile culture, we too are called to resistance, to firmly anchor our identity in the God to whom we belong through the work of Jesus.
