1 Corinthians 11:2-16

Here we come to a passage that presents a variety of significant difficulties, not the least of which is our cultural distance from the situation in Corinth of Paul's day. Nonetheless, there are a number of things that can be said with confidence, principally, that gender distinctions have not been done away with in our coming to Christ. God created us "male" and "female" and that within the gathered community, maintaining culturally appropriate distinctions is a matter of mutual love and care. Fleshing this out in a god-honouring way in our cultural environment is the challenge we are left with.
