Luke 7:18-23
"Small and Unexpected Ways"

At this point in Luke’s story, John the Baptist steps back onto the stage but what we see may surprise us.  The forerunner of Jesus seems filled with uncertainty - disillusioned, frustrated and confused.  He sends two of his disciples to Jesus with a question — a question that Jesus does not immediately answer.  When he does respond, he points to his mighty deeds as signs of the in-breaking kingdom of God, even though they may seem, in some ways, small and unexpected.  Jesus continues to be present and powerfully at work in our lives and our world today, even if in small and unexpected ways.
