Though salvation is entirely a gift of grace that we cannot earn, life in Christ is a life that requires great effort. Paul challenges the Corinthians to engage in following Christ as a high level athlete engages in training and preparation for their particular athletic Endeavor. Discipleship calls for effort, not to earn our redemption, but in light of our redemption. Living half-baked for Jesus is simply incongruent with life in Christ.
