Matthew 6:1-3

Having just illustrated, in the previous section of the sermon, what righteousness looks like in the lives of the gospelized, Jesus now gives the gospelized a warning. What becomes clear as we delve into this passage is that there is a wrong way to be righteous. Here Jesus takes us to the subterranean levels of our hearts to deal with the motivations that lie behind what we do and think. But Jesus does not leave us there. Graciously and gently he redirects our longings so that we are transformed into those who live fully for the glory of God.
