Matthew 5:6

In this fourth beatitude we hear Jesus say, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness." What does it mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness? What does righteousness mean? And even if we wanted to hunger and thirst for it, is this an appetite that we can somehow produce within our hearts and minds? In this beatitude Jesus is, in fact, confronting us once more with the glorious good news of the gospel. He is speaking about what each of us, whether we recognize it or not, deeply long for.
